Welcome to the Life & Medical Sciences (LIMES) study programs
The interface of biology, chemistry, and medicine is currently perhaps the most dynamic and most rapidly growing area of science. Thus, novel educational concepts that reflect the complexity of modern research in the Life Sciences must be designed. In recent years, the University of Bonn has established interdisciplinary and complementary research and study programs that are excellently adapted to these novel requirements.
Molecular Biomedicine
(Bachelor program)
In 2003/2004 the new undergraduate study program Molecular Biomedicine has been initiated as a joint program of LIMES and the Medical Faculty. Its aim is to combine molecular approaches, methods and recent insights into Life Sciences (Cell Biology, Genetics, Developmental Biology, Molecular Physiology, Immunology, Chemistry) with knowledge on human congenital disorders. The 3 years Bachelor of Science program is designed especially for students with a strong commitment to research.
International Graduate Program
Life & Medical Sciences (M.Sc./PhD)
to the online-application (until March 31, 2012!)
The Bonn International Graduate School Life & Medical Sciences (LIMES) aims at training a new generation of students who are capable of facing the present and future challenges of this rapidly evolving field of research. The Graduate School leads students from Germany or abroad with a B.Sc. degree in any field of Life Sciences through a M.Sc. phase (1.5 years) directly to doctoral studies (doctoral degree Dr. rer. nat., German equivalent to PhD). "Diplom" or M.Sc. students are welcome to apply for the doctoral phase of the program (3 years). Up to 40 students per year will be admitted to the program. The selection will be based on academic achievements. Central research areas of the School include
- Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry
- Development, Genetics & Molecular Physiology
- Molecular Immune & Cell Biology
- Membrane Biology & Biochemistry
Life Sciences & Culture Bonn (study abroad program)
This program is a joint program of LIMES and the Harvard University (USA) which is funded by the DAAD. The program which is offered to very excellent undergraduate students of Harvard includes a 2 month scientific project integrated into ongoing Life Science research activities of a LIMES host lab and a broad range of cultural activities including language courses and sight visits.
